Our program
The program will feature master classes from Australia's leading origami experts. The focus of the master classes will be on origami as an art form, and go beyond merely teaching the mechanics of sequence folding; developing expression through paper choice, and folding technique - including hard, soft, and wet folding. We hope to capture this spirit across the program. Our program will also include introductory and intermediate level classes. If you wish to present a class during weekend, please contact us at info@papercrane.org and let us know the model and on which day you would like to teach.Publication
We are planning a smaller publication to go along with this years convention, we will be announcing more information about this shortly, so get your diagrams in order. What's new this at 2009
This years convention has some points of difference between previous years. Most notably, we have lowered the price (a monetary squash fold?), primarily because we have not invited an international guest. Our decision was to develop origami in our local community. We aim to encourage young folders to start folding and to also start designing. To assist with the long term development of this initiative we sought funding from the City of Port Phillip as part of their community arts development program. Luckily, our grant proposal was successful, and our grant funding will be presented by the Mayor at the St Kilda town hall at 6.30pm on the 23rd July. (I apologise in advance that its by invitation only, though I'd love to invite you all).
We believe in developing the culture of origami in Australia for the long term. Our job is to inspire the young designers and foster their talents. Along with our usual program of teaching and inspiring the adults as well, of course!
We look forward to seeing you at Folding Australia 2009.
